Note that many frequently asked questions have already been answered in detail in the first volume book Undersea Colonies, available here. This page is designed to answer the questions not available in the books.

When is the colony going to be launched?

Nearly all the required technology we require is complete, with one vital piece still in the prototype phase. Once it is finished, patented and in production, the first contracts will be let for construction of the colony. With some confidence, we anticipate the first segment will be launched in 2027 with the first full time residents moving in.

How can this happen so fast?

Because we have had decades to plan, prepare and innovate. Our team has captured most of the long-term undersea exploration and aquanaut records in the world. The Atlantica Expeditions is also the longest continuously running Aquanautics and permanent undersea colonies research and engineering project in history.

Where will it be located?

There are three prime  locations still under consideration and all of them are in the territorial waters of the United States. The colony will be under the laws and jurisdiction of the United States and its Constitution. We will also be covered by the laws of the adjacent state.

How deep will the colony be?

In clear water with comfortable sunlight penetration, but deeper than recreational diving safely permits. The colony is designed so that all access is by submersibles.

Will recreational diving be permitted from the colony?

No, because of the risk of easily and quickly exceeding dive tables at that depth. A five minute dive is not on anyone’s list of interesting things! But we will have a surface platform and semisubmersible artificial reefs where recreational diving is permitted at depths not exceeding 60 feet.

What is your undersea colony going to be called?

Calvary City

Why is it named Calvary City and is there any religious reference to that name?

Because our boss, Dr. Dennis Chamberland, wanted it to be designated as such.

Of course it has a religious reference. But so have literally tens of thousands of other cities, towns and villages across the world according to a recent poll of AI sources. Major examples include Christchurch NZ, Corpus Christi (Body of Christ) TX, Santa Fe, NM (Holy Faith), Islamabad PK, (Abode of Islam) and Medina SA, (City of Muhammad), just to name a few.

Who can visit Calvary City?

Anyone for any length of time – for one day, a single night or for permanent residence.

Is any diving experience required?

None. We have exactly the same requirements as boarding any commercial airliner. Just as there are no wing walkers on any airliner at 40,000 feet – there is no one except fully certified commercial divers getting wet at Calvary City.

Where does the financing come from to build the colony?

A single private donor who wishes to remain anonymous.

How much will it cost to build?

A lot. More than a little and less than too much.

Why so much secrecy?

We would not have a public website with a FAQ if any part of it were a secret. Just like most other companies, we protect our donors, our brand and our intellectual property but beyond revelations that can cause us harm, we have few limits.

How many residents will Calvary City have?

This question provides an opportunity to answer a lot of other questions at the same time. We are no different than any other municipality. Our population will change every day as residents and visitors move in and out. Our population will grow as structures are added and removed. Further, we do not seek “self-sufficiency” because we are not a Mars colony and do not need it. Our residents travel to and from Calvary City daily for work, for entertainment, for travel, cruises, groceries and movies.

Are there any decompression requirement?

None, as discussed in detail in Undersea Colonies, the entire colony is a 1-atmosphere shirtsleeve environment, of course. No one lives under pressure in Calvary City. Our residents and guests live in exactly the same pressure and breathe the same air as any surface-dwelling resident anywhere in the world.

What are the costs to visit or live there as a resident?

Living Modules can be purchased or leased. We are targeting the average cost of a residential home in the United States for a purchase price of an average module. (They are available in a wide range of sizes and amenities.)  Leasing prices are also targeted at US averages.

Is it safe and is it certified?

Absolutely! All of our human rated equipment is certified by the American Bureau of Ships. We will have the same safety engineering process as the United States Navy who has never lost a nuclear submarine except for pressure implosion accidents. Since our equipment is fixed to the seafloor at a depth many times shallower than its crush depth, we anticipate our facilities will be far safer than any public transportation system.

How easy is it to come and go from the colony to the shore and back?

We are located within 45 minutes to one hour from shore by fast surface hydrofoils. Our surface boats arrive and depart on a frequent cyclic basis so that everyone who works ashore or has appointments can make their schedules daily. There is absolutely no limit to entries or exits from Calvary City provided they meet the transportation schedule.

What is there to do in Calvary City?

We are a city in every respect, with a movie theater featuring first run movies, a general store, pharmacy, urgent care center, dental center, conference center, performance arts theater and three restaurants. We have also accumulated more than half a million electronic books available for the City’s Virtual Library as well as millions of music performances of every genre and endless streamed movies available from each residence for a small monthly or annual fee from our vendors.

What about communications access with the rest of the world?

We use Starlink for all our communications – voice, email and streaming.

Does Calvary City have a suite of Scientific Research Facilities?

Yes. We have designed a suite of world class research facilities for leasing to any individual or team of researchers who wish to study the ocean in situ.
